Butane canister distributors offer monetary reward

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Legitimate distributors of liquefied petroleum gas-refilled butane canister are giving monetary reward to anyone who can give information about those who illegally use their canisters.

This as Cebu-based cooperative the Philippine Ecogas Producers Cooperative, Rufrance and Tripled LPG issued a warning amid reports that their canisters were tampered to make it appear that they are original containers of another brand.

“In connection thereof, please be advised that PEPC, Ruftance and Tripler, in coordination with the appropriate government authorities, will be conducting investigation and random inspections in some of the establishments identified to be in possession and selling the said fake, tampered and adulterated LPG canisters owned by PEPC, Rufrance and Tripler,” said the distributors in their joint statement.

They warned that those caught using tampered canisters will be seriously dealt with in accordance with law.

“Mere possession of the said products in your pili or store is prima facie evidence of your participation and/or involvement of the said unlawful activity, and might hold you criminally, civilly and administratively liable under the law,” the statement reads.

PEPC launched few years ago the refillable wielded stainless steel cylinders, the first in the country, as the safest solution to reused butane canisters, which are considered hazardous.

It has been appealing to local government units to strictly implement ordinances on the prohibition of manufacture and distribution of LPG-refilled butane canisters for public safety.

Fe Potestas, one of PEPC board of directors, said that their distribution areas include Cebu City and Cebu province as well as San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.

Potestas added that their current volume is almost five million per month. — LPM (FREEMAN)
