Cebu gets 141,570 more Pfizer shots
The latest allocation for Cebu was shipped Sunday, the National Task Force against COVID-19 announced. Davao City, meanwhile, will receive 64,350 more doses.

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu received 141,570 more doses of Pfizer vaccine from the batch of over a million doses procured by the national government that arrived this week.

The latest allocation for Cebu was shipped Sunday, the National Task Force against COVID-19 announced. Davao City, meanwhile, will receive 64,350 more doses.

The rest of the supply are sent to Regions 3, 4-A, 10, and 6.

Aside from the ones procured by government, the Department of Health (DOH)-7 also received 994,500 doses from Pfizer itself last week.

Vaccine czar, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., thanked the US government and the COVAX facility, noting that aside from Cebu, Davao City also got 994,500 doses of donated vaccines.

Galvez said the government now has buffer stocks that it can use to inoculate those within the 12 to 17 years old age group, which is scheduled to start on October 15.

Galvez also disclosed Cebu’s intention to be part of the pilot test for vaccination of the youth sector but no further details have been revealed just yet.

“We already allocated a buffer, at the same time, tina-timing natin na this coming next week... may dadating pa rin na mga Pfizer. So ‘yun ang gagamitin natin, ‘yung dadating na mga bago,” he said.

So far, 8,104,590 doses out of the 40 million doses of Pfizer vaccines purchased by the government from the US-based pharmaceutical firm have been delivered to the country.

To date, a total of 81,419,060 doses from various vaccine manufacturers have been shipped to the country since February.

DOH Raffle

More than P2.7 million in cash is at stake in a raffle promo launched yesterday by the Department of Health (DOH) to encourage people to get their jabs against COVID-19.

According to DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III, the “Bakunado Panalo” program is aimed to incentivize those who got inoculated against COVID-19.

He said in a statement that the program is DOH’s way to thank these vaccinated individuals “for choosing to join the fight against COVID-19.”

“Every Filipino vaccinated is another Filipino protected. Through this raffle, we celebrate the contribution that each Filipino makes in choosing to get vaccinated and playing their part to end this pandemic,” he noted.

In a public briefing, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire revealed that some 200,000 individuals have already participated in the program.

Vergeire added the goal is to have a least one million participants.

Bakunado Panalo is an SMS-based raffle open to vaccinated Filipinos. It was sponsored by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) in collaboration with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF).

Under the program, cash prize of 5,000 will be given each to 50 winning participants in October and November.

During the grand draw in December, 10 individuals will win P100,000 each while one will bag P500,000 and one stands to win P1 million.

Those who received a single dose will get one raffle entry while three entries will be given to the fully inoculated ones. Senior citizens shall get “double” raffle entries.

To join the raffle, a person can text to RESBAKUNAREG NAME/AGE/ADDRESS to 8933 para mag-register. For example: RESBAKUNAREG Juan Dela Cruz/45/Blk 6 Lot 18 Golden Subd. Pasig City).

DOH data showed that as of Oct. 4, the country had already fully vaccinated over 21.8 million Filipinos from the total of 46.3 million doses administered.

For his part, PDRF Chief Resilience Officer Guillermo Luz said they supports the government’s plan to fully vaccinate 80 percent of our people, including children from ages 12-17, “to build population protection for the country.”

“Mass vaccination, together with minimum health safety standards, is the best way to manage this pandemic and prevent deaths. It will also help us re-open the economy and enable people to rebuild their lives,” Luz added. — Philippine Star News Service, JMO (FREEMAN)
