CPPO vows stronger crackdown on fake quarantine documents

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will work hand in hand with the Philippine Coast Guard and port police as it strengthens its crackdown on fake quarantine documents.

Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy city director for operations, said strict measures are needed to put an end to the proliferation of fake medical clearance certificates and acceptance letters, among others

Travelers are required to present these requirements to be allowed entry into the island of Cebu.

“All travel documents will be thoroughly scrutinized. We will be strict on this,” said Parilla.

If caught with forged travel clearances, Parilla said, travelers will be sent back to their points of origin.

“Ato gyud pabalikon sa iya place of origin,” he said.

He said the travelers will also be slapped with charges for falsification of public documents.

Last week, six Filipinos and one Chinese national were held at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) after authorities discovered that their Letter of Acceptance from the Lapu-Lapu City government was falsified.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan then filed charges against them before the City Prosecutor’s Office for showing “fake” travel documents.

Travelers are required to present a letter of acceptance from the local chief executives. This means that mayors must be informed of incoming travelers. — KQD (FREEMAN)
