Urban cities record 18 new COVID cases

CEBU, Philippines — Eighteen residents of Cebu City were found positive of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) yesterday.

The 18 cases brought to 1,782 the total number of cases in the city as of May 20.

Seven of the 18 new cases reported in Cebu City come from Barangay Pasil.

The other new positive cases in the city are three from Barangay Duljo; two from Barangay Sawang Calero; two from Barangay Suba; and one each from Barangays Labangon, Apas, Mambaling and Tejero.

The City Health Department (CHD) has also recorded four more previously positive cases that turned laboratory negative yesterday.

These recoveries are from Barangay Apas with two; Barangay Luz with one; and one new recovery from Barangay Kalunasan.

With that, the city has already logged a total of 108 recoveries.

The CHD is still closely monitoring the patients whether isolated in the Barangay Isolation Center or home isolation.

Talisay City

In Talisay City, Mayor  Gerard "Samsam" Gullas announced on his Facebook account that the city has one new confirmed COVID-19 case yesterday .

Gullas said that the new patient is a 32-year-old female from Barangay Tabunok.

A swab test was taken from the patient last May 15 at the Perpetual Succuor Hospital, which was a protocol before her scheduled caesarean operation.

"We have contacted all family members and they are home quarantined and all are scheduled for swabbing.  Gibantayan nasad ilang balay sa barangay ug sa kapulisan," the mayor said.

Talisay City now has 17 cases of COVID-19, 10 of these are active cases.

Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan also announced on Facebook that the city has three more confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The three patients came from Barangays Pusok, Marigondon and Basak.

The city now has a total of 61 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Mandaue City has recorded 66 new confirmed COVID-19 cases as of May 20.

All the new cases are male inmates at the Mandaue City Jail.

This makes the COVID-19 confirmed count for Mandaue City to 199 with seven recoveries and three deaths. GAN (FREEMAN)
