Cebu, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered a massive crackdown on trucks and trailers illegally-operating  along the city roads.

In a statement released Friday, the trucks and trailers that are operating illegally is one of the reasons for the heavy traffic on major roads.

“These articulated vehicles may be impounded upon inspection should these be found without proper registration or provisional authority to operate,” said Labella.

This is in violation of RA 4136 also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

Labella directed lawyer Rey Gealon, the city legal officer and chairman of the Cebu City Transportation Coordinating Committee (CTCC), to carry out this order.

Gealon said he will make sure the mayor’s order will be carried out through the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Stricter apprehensions are to be expected on areas declared as “discipline zones.”

Labella said traffic personnel, patrol cars, and patrol motorcycles will be deployed in these zones.

The discipline zone includes the SRP coastal road, Sergio Osmeña Avenue, and the Ban-Tal corridor, among the other areas considered as discipline zones.

Recently, the Cebu Provincial Board has declared a traffic crisis in the province, after they approved the resolution that tackled about the heavy congestion of private cars and public utility vehicles that cause the heavy traffic on the road. GAN ( FREEMAN)
