Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The existing 20 accredited schools under the Cebu City government’s scholarship program may be reduced, if these schools cannot pass the ongoing evaluation by the city.

City Councilor Joy Augustus Young, assistant deputy mayor on education matters, said there is an ongoing evaluation of the accredited schools to ensure if these institutions are still responsive to the needs of the city’s scholars.

“Before we will renew the city’s contract with the accredited schools, we will make sure nga nindot gyud ang facilities, enough ra ba ang facilities. Things like that kay education ang main concern pod namo,” he told reporters.

He said the current administration is reviewing all the documents related to the accreditation because it has not received any report from the previous administration about the accreditation of the schools.

“Maong right now, we are reorganizing the scholarship committee, and we are now checking on the accreditation of the schools kay we have not received documents about aning accreditation kada skwelahan from the previous administration,” he said.

He said he has instructed the staff working on the evaluation to check the facilities and background of the teachers working in the accredited schools.

The evaluation will be completed this month.

As of now, there are 20 accredited colleges and universities by the Cebu City Scholarship Program.

These schools include the Banilad Center for Professional Development; Cebu City Medical Center - College of Nursing; Cebu Eastern College; Cebu Institute of Technology - University; Cebu Mary Immaculate College; Cebu Normal University - Main Campus; Cebu Technological University - Main Campus; Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise; and Clarita Bacalso Dacua College.
