Korean dead in parasailing accident
CEBU, Philippines - A Korean national was killed while his wife was injured after they fell into the sea while parasailing off Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City, yesterday morning.
Despite the gale warning issued by the state weather bureau, Seong Soo Kim, 64; and his wife, Jam Sak Lim, 60, went parasailing around 10 a.m.
Personnel from the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that the rope connecting the parasail to the speedboat reportedly snapped under high winds and the couple fell into the rough seas.
The strong wind and waves made it difficult to immediately rescue the couple.
Past 6 p.m., Lapu-Lapu Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Andy Berame said Seong was declared dead on arrival at the Mactan Doctor's Hospital. Jam, who was also rushed to the same hospital, survived the incident.
Berame added the couple was scheduled to dive today. (FREEMAN)
