Power firm lauds Cebu media

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A leading establishment in the power industry has recognized the media practitioners for their effort to serve the public even during unholy hours and on holidays, covering "buhis buhay" situations.

Engineer Leah Diaz, first vice president of Global Business Power Corporation-Toledo Site Operations, lauded the local journalists for upholding the freedom of speech and educating the public despite the risks and inconveniences in the profession.

“Global Business Power, through Cebu Energy Development Corporation and Toledo Power Company, has always been an avid supporter and believes in the cause of the Cebu media that is why every year, we are happy to join your celebration,” said Diaz in her speech.

The GBPC executive spoke before reporters, editors, photojournalists and other practitioners in the media industry during Monday night’s party on the first day of the 22nd Cebu Press Freedom Week.

The FREEMAN is this year’s lead convenor. The event was sponsored by GBPC in cooperation with Primary Homes, Carmen Copper Corporation and Robinsons Galleria Cebu, where the event was held.

“Cebu will not be Cebu without each and every one of you here along with the contributions of the past Cebu media practitioners. You all deserve a tap on your back for a job well done… Global Business Power is looking forward for the continuance of a much stronger partnership in the future,” Diaz said. (FREEMAN)
