Repair of water pipe support under Mactan bridge starts
CEBU, Philippines - The Metropolitan Cebu Water District has started Tuesday the rehabilitation of the water pipe support underneath the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.
The project undertaken by Jegma Construction and Development Corporation will be completed in October, said MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara.
Kara said MCWD’s contract with JCDC includes the procurement and fabrication of materials as well as the installation of the water pipe support.
The pipeline under the bridge brings 12,000 cubic meters of water to the households and commercial establishments in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova.
Traffic officials in Lapu-Lapu and Mandue said the water district did not coordinate with them, although there was no reported effect on the flow of traffic.
“Walay problema na. Kung naay disturbo sa traffic dapat mo-inform sila one week advance notice,” said Frank Brazil, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management Systems.
Architect Florentino Nimor, head of the Mandaue City Planning and Development Office and executive director of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, said they will intervene as soon as the project affects the vehicle traffic in the city.
“Kung in kaso maka-cause sila sa traffic, mo-intervene mi. Amo na ipa-undang kay obstruction man na sa traffic,” Nimor said.
Kara, however, assured that the rehabilitation project will not affect the traffic because works will be done at night.
“Gabii ra man ang trabaho,” Kara said. (FREEMAN)
