Motorists warned vs using “DU30” plates

CEBU, Philippines - A fine of P5,000 awaits owners of cars who use the unauthorized "DU30" plates and those whose plate numbers have been defaced, such as being covered with "DU30" stickers, the Land Transportation Office warned yesterday.

LTO-7 Director Arnel Tancinco said they have not caught anyone with the plate yet but using the same is not allowed because the "DU30" plate is not considered a commemorative one.So far, they have only seen photos on social media and no one has also filed an official complaint with LTO. What the LTO has caught and fined, Tancinco said, were drivers of motorcycles whose plate numbers were pasted with "DU30" stickers.

The "DU30" stickers were produced by those who supported the candidacy of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte. 

An online supplier of car plates and stickers told The Freeman the materials they produced were only souvenirs.

Joel Maloyloy-on, LTO-7's chief of operations, said car owners who use the "DU30" unauthorized plates, especially those whose cars are not registered, will be investigated. 

"Kung wa pa siyay rehistro ug nigamit siya'g di ma-consider nga authorized plate number, katung dunay "DU30," imbestigahan jud na," he said. (FREEMAN)
