Two die in voting centers due to medical condition

CEBU, Philippines - At least two people died of cardiac arrest and hypertensive attack while waiting for their turn to cast their vote.

The fatalities were identified as Timoteo Pepito, 60, of Purok Talisay Lutaw, Barangay Estaca, Compostela, and Terry Tañeza, 46, of Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

Pepito was queuing inside his precinct and was already about to cast his vote when he fainted. A nurse who was around to vote tried to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him while waiting for the ambulance to transport him to the nearest hospital.

He was rushed to Mendero Medical Hospital in Consolacion but was declared dead on arrival.

Tañeza was also lining up at Bagumbayan Elementary School in Barangay Carreta when she suffered an attack. She was rushed to the hospital but was also declared dead on arrival.

Another voter, Rosita Abellana, 59, in Barangay Camputhaw, also suffered cardiac arrest but was immediately attended to by the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

A pregnant woman in Daanbantayan also suffered from hypertensive attack but was immediately attended to by medical personnel.
