LTFRB-7 asks CCTO to measure PUJ routes

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 is asking the Cebu City Traffic Office to measure all the jeepney routes in the city for the issuance of a revised fare matrix.

LTFRB-7 Director Rey Elnar said that the absence of an updated fare matrix would often result in verbal altercations between passengers and drivers.

Elnar said the latest fare matrix for Cebu City was done in 2005 yet.

“Ang fare matrix sa Cebu City jeepneys kay pag 2005 pa na. So, dugay-dugay na gyud. Angayan nga sukdon na og usab kay naa may rota sa una nga gipang re-route na,” said Elnar.

Elnar said it is the responsibility of CCTO to measure the routes and submit it to LTFRB for fare computation.

“Medyo madugay pa gyud na kay daghan og rota ang Cebu City,” Elnar said.

Ryan Benjamin Yu, president of the Cebu Confederation of Transport Operators and Drivers Association Inc., said that LTFRB should have done this a long time ago.

“Hagbay ra unta na nila gibuhat. We have been requesting LTFRB to do it pero wa gyud,” said Yu, who is also the president and general manager of CITRASCO.

Yu said that there are several routes that have been changed already over the years.

“Naay rota nga nita-as ug naa sad mga rota nga nimubo. So, para fair sa mga pasahero ug drivers angayan na’ng sukdon na gyud ang distansiya sa mga rota,” Yu added

The CCTO expressed its support to the request of LTFRB.

CCTO acting department head Rafael Yap said his office is willing to help to expedite the issuance of new jeepney fare matrix.

“We support the request,” he said.

Yap said it would take a month to undertake the request of the LTFRB since there are several routes within the city.

“Plotting the actual distance (from one place to another) is relatively simple but daghan ta og routes,” he said.

Yap is eyeing to tap the Management Information and Computer Services to help them considering the urgency of the request. (FREEMAN)
