Guard suspended: Man seized with gun at Qimonda charged

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a 26-year-old man arrested inside Qimonda building for illegally having in possession of firearm.

A bailbond of P130,000 and P12,000 were also re-commended for Mark Solon’s illegal possession of firearm case and for violating the election gun ban, respectively.

Police Officer 3 Diosdado Parejas of Mabolo Police Station said Solon, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe, chose not to undergo preliminary investigation.

Solon was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught bringing a cal. 45 pistol inside Qimonda building, specifically at the hallway near Regional Trial Court Branch 13.

Head security Jonald Sebelleta of Eaglematrix Security Agency said Solon was able to enter the building at past 12 p.m. through the exit door manned by security guard Higinio Macion, 56.

Solon, who was charged for illegal possession of Nubain, appeared in court to verify his case.

Parejas and two other policemen who were also at Qimonda to attend a court hearing were informed about Solon. They saw the suspect and asked what his batch number is, but the latter failed to answer. It was later found out that Solon was a civilian, said Sebelleta.

Solon was then arrested and turned over to Mabolo Police Station.

Guard suspended

Sebelleta said he suspended Macion from the service for negligence. He added that RTC Executive Justice Soliver Peras told him to relieve Macion.

However, Sebelleta said, it would be up to their agency to make an action against the guard.

“Ang agency nay muhimo og last action against Macion. Negligence gyud kay nganung nakasud nga bisan mga police ibilin man ang ilang armas sa amoa, dili puwede magda sud sa korte,” he said.

The suspect, in a separate interview, refused to comment about his arrest but said the security guards did not frisk him and that he easily went inside the building.

Senior Police Officer 4 Roldan Paller, also of Ma-bolo Police Station, said security guards of the building should be held liable, adding that even them, policemen, have to leave their service firearms outside when they get inside the building for a court hearing.

“Maayo gani kay naa’y pulis. Wa ‘ta kahibawo, naa’y target sa sulod,” said Paller.  (FREEMAN)
