Sinulog app out: Features contingents’ info, places to visit, etc.

CEBU, Philippines - For technology-savvies joining the Sinulog festivities, a mobile phone application is again available for free download.

The Sinulog app, available in iOS and Android formats, includes guides to religious activities to festive parties.

The 2016 Sinulog Guide is a collaboration between Smart Communications, Cebu-based startup InnoPub Media, as well as the Sinulog Foundation Inc., the non-government group that organizes the annual Sinulog Festival.

“Sinulog Guide is a useful resource that provides important information to our guests and visitors. It’s all about Sinulog and how to make the most of it. It is all about Cebu, its culture and the places you can visit here. It’s all about our celebration that never ends,” said SFI executive director Ricky Ballesteros in a statement sent to The FREEMAN.

The guide provides schedule of processions and novena Masses, backgrounder on Sinulog contingents, and information on the exciting lineup of activities and parties.

Among the non-religious parties in the guide include Oh Ship!, Invasion Cebu, and LifeDance Cebu.

A section in the app provides timely updates on the festival, from relevant Sinulog tips to information on street dancing contingents, as it draws near until after the Grand Parade.

The app also includes listings on the top things to do, best places to dine at, and most popular pasalubong-shopping outlets in Cebu.

“With the Sinulog Guide app, revelers can plan their itinerary ahead of time so they can maximize their stay in Cebu during one of the country’s most celebra-ted festivals,” said Smart Public Affairs Group Head Ramon Isberto.

Using GPS technology, top tourism attractions are also featured in the application, as well as directory of restaurants, hotels, and emergency services.

The app also now includes a “virtual concierge” feature that allows app users to send questions and inquiries.

“Sinulog Guide is a platform for information and services. With the new virtual concierge feature in the app, we hope to make it even more useful to visitors – with help and additional information a bell tap away,” said InnoPub Media co-founder Max Limpag.

In February 2013, the app was given Anvil Award of Merit. It was also given commendation by the Cebu City Council in a resolution in January 2012 as an “ingenious” way to deliver tourism information. — (FREEMAN)
