UV to celebrate Founder’s Day on January 12

CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas will be celebrating Founder’s Day on January 12, the 128th birth anniversary of UV Founder and First President, Don Vicente Gullas.

The weeklong celebration will start on Monday, January 11, with a Holy Mass at 4:00pm, which is also intended for Visayanians who have gone to the great beyond. A short and simple yet memorable musical program will follow for all Visayanians featu-ring the favorite songs of  Don Vicente and UV Co-Founder, the inspiration,  Inday Pining Rivera-Gullas. The anniversary song, I’m A Fool To Want You and a few timeless Cebuano pieces will be rendered by the Junior UV Chorale composed of highschool students of the main campus, as well as students of the VIP Gullas Conservatory of Music.

On January 12, there will be  wreath laying ceremony at the Quadrangle of the Main Campus at 8:00am. The Opening of Exhibit on the Founder will follow right after. At  6:00pm, there will be a Holy Mass at CEMPARK.

The 9th Vicente Gullas Inter-Collegiate Oratorical Contest will be on January 13. This annual event is spearheaded by Atty. Joseph M. Baduel, participating schools are: Southwestern University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Cebu Doctor’s University, University of the Visayas, University of Cebu, St. Theresa’s College, University of San Jose Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Cebu Eastern College. The College of Education, Arts and Sciences, Criminology and Computer Studies are the lead departments in this year’s celebration.   (FREEMAN)
