Capitol’s float to showcase its new icon

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu provincial government will join this year’s Sinulog with a float showing its icon—two human forms, one blue and one yellow, holding hands.

Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera said the float, which costs the Capitol P400,000, is more expensive than last year’s, which cost them only P40,000, because of the details and renderings.

She said the theme of the Capitol’s float will center on the province’s newly launched advocacy campaign dubbed as “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon,” which is symbolizes the province’s and the Cebuanos’ efforts toward progress.

“It will feature the map of Cebu and miniatures /3D structures and icons of the Capitol’s projects under the Kalambuan theme,” she said in a text message to The FREEMAN.

She said flowers and lights will bedeck the float and no Capitol officials will ride on it. A dancing contingent composed of Capitol workers, however, will be following the float.

Provincial Budget Officer Danilo Rodas said the Capitol set aside P1 million this year for its participation in the Sinulog activities and to fund the float and costumes for its dancers.

Last year, the Capitol paraded a ‘Pope-themed’ float in line with the papal visit. Among the features of that float was Pope Francis’ standee waving his right hand and a replica of the Holy Child.

In 2014, the provincial government used a float that carried a nipa hut to depict the rebuilding effort of the province after super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in the northern part of Cebu in November 2013. This year is the third time the Capitol will have a float joining the Sinulog Grand Parade since 2003, when it bagged second place. — Michael Vencynth H. Braga/RHM (FREEMAN)
