JVR’s son wants fiscal to inhibit from libel case

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Prosecutor Marshal Rubia confirmed they received a motion for inhibition on the libel case filed by former congressman Eduardo Gullas against the son of Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.

Rubia said they received the motion from the office of the Regional State Prosecutor where de los Reyes’ camp filed it.

De los Reyes’ camp, Rubia said, should have filed the motion before their office if they want to fast track the procedure.

In the motion, Rubia said, de los Reyes stated that his camp does not want to be complacent since the city prosecutor’s office is biased and the complainant is their patron.

“It is their right ug normal ra pud ni namo kay this is not the first time nga nakadawat mi og inhibition,” Rubia said.

Clifford de los Reyes, through a Facebnook post, allegedly accused Gullas of earning P30 million from the sale of the Tabunok Public Market to private investors.

Rubia said he will discuss the motion for inhibition, especially with prosecutor Maria Alice Englis who now handles the case after it was raffled among them prosecutors.

According to Rubia, nothing can stop them from not following the motion except if there is an order from their higher office.  He pointed out that they have no special treatment of any case, as he cited Joavan Fernandez’s case as an example. Joavan is the son of former Talisay City mayor and now city councilor Socrates Fernandez.

He further said that if there is basis to elevate the case, then they will act on it, but if there is none, they will issue a dismissal.  “We’ve been fair to everybody nga muari sa atong opisina to seek justice,” the prosecutor added. — (FREEMAN)
