2 rape suspects fall

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were arrested in separate places in Cebu on Monday over alleged rape.

In Barangay Binabag, Bogo City, police arrested a man who allegedly raped his cousin’s 19-year-old live-in partner.

Investigation showed that the victim was sleeping when around 3 a.m., she was awakened by the weight of the suspect, who put his naked body on top of her.

The victim was sleeping at the house of her live-in partner’s grandmother.

The suspect allegedly pointed at her a knife and told her not to move or scream.

After allegedly managing to rape her, the suspect threatened the victim to kill her if she would tell somebody about what happened.

The victim still disclosed the incident to her spouse’s mother, who then called for the police.

Mobile Patrol Group personnel of Bogo Police Station responded and asked the victim to describe the suspect.

Minutes later, the suspect was arrested and was brought to the police station while the victim was referred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for examination.

Barely an hour later in Barangay Kanagahan, in the town of San Remegio, a motorcycle-for-hire driver was also arrested for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman.

The suspect was arrested in a hot pursuit operation following the victim’s complaint. The victim was also referred to VSMMC.

The police are now preparing rape charges against both suspects and are waiting for the result of the medical examination to further strengthen the complaint. — (FREEMAN)
