Abducted baby’s mom suing suspect

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The mother of the baby abducted inside the Cebu South Bus Terminal last week won’t forgive the woman who took her child.

Maricel Enriquez, the mother of three-month-old Lady Love, said Mary Jane Carizon deserves to face criminal charges. Carizon was arrested in Barangay Tayud, Liloan Wednesday afternoon

“Kinahanglan gyud siya pasakaan og kaso kaning ing ani kay wa man ta kahibawo gud basin og atong pasayloon mousab na sad unya na,” said Enriquez.

Although Enriquez said she does not bear a grudge against Carizon but the suspect still has to face the consequences of what she did.

“Para nako di ko magdumot niya pero naa man ta’y balaod nga kinahanglan sundon,” said Enriquez.

As of now, personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 are preparing the evidence in the kidnapping case they will file against Carizon.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, the acting chief of the CIDG-7, said that, in their assessment of the case, all elements of kidnapping are present.

“The minor was taken and all elements of kidnapping are present. Kahit absent ang gain, the mere fact na kinuha mo yung bata without the consent of the mother and more than five days mo siyang kineep sayo, that constitutes kidnapping,” said Tayaba.

He said they will do their best to file the kidnapping case, which is not bailable, against Carizon.

Tayaba said they will also investigate Carizon’s live-in partner, Michael Pitaluna, if he had any participation in Carizon’s actions. He said they are questioning why Pitaluna did not tell others the child was in their custody.

It was earlier found out that Carizon took the child so she could have a baby to show her live-in partner. She bore her own child last October 31 but could not show the baby to her partner because the baby is reportedly suffering from a heart ailment. She reportedly left the baby with her mother in Dalaguete.

Pitaluna denied having anything to do with the abduction, saying he did not have any idea that the baby was stolen by Carizon as she told him the baby was theirs.

Pitaluna also said he knew Carizon was pregnant and bore their child. He said he just believed that the baby was theirs since they rarely see each other because of his job as a truck boy.

On the other hand, Tayaba said the abduction of Lady Love was just an isolated case and there was no syndicate involved. He also said they have not received reports or monitored any syndicate engaged in abducting babies in the region.

Tayaba again reminded parents not to entrust their children to anyone especially to strangers.

“Sa mga nanay, huwag masyadong ipagkatiwala yung mga anak nila sa mga hindi nila masyado kakilalang mga tao,” said Tayaba.

Carizon was arrested by the CIDG-7 operatives led by the chief investigator, Senior Inspector Delfin Bontuyan in Liloan, past 6 p.m. last Wednesday.

They traced Carizon with the help of a receipt from a money forwarding company branch in Samboan town.

The company also furnished them Carizon’s photo that she handed over when she claimed the money sent to her.

Carizon is currently detained at the detention cell of the CIDG-7 while waiting for the charges that may be filed against her.

Enriquez earlier said Carizon befriended her at the terminal on November 2 and requested to hold Lady Love.

Enriquez said she entrusted the child to Carizon because she was also busy attending to her goods as a candy vendor outside the terminal.  (FREEMAN)
