Population inventory in Cebu not yet done

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Statistics Authority-7 is still conducting census enumeration in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue.

“Sa mga highly-urbanized cities g’yud ta medyo nadugay og census kay naay uban mga households di available kay busy mao na magbalik-balik ang mga census personnel hangtud ma-interview g’yud sila,” explained Noel Rafols, information officer of PSA, formerly National Statistics Office.

Rafols said after the census of all the households in Central Visayas, the result will be manually evaluated.

The 2015 Census on Population (POPCEN 2015), which kicked off last August 10 and was supposed to be finished by the end of September, was extended as some census enumerators have backed out.

“Naa’y tulo kabuok nga napaakan og iro pero natambalan dayon. Naa’y uban field enumerators, because of the weather, gipanghilantan and opted to back out na lang,” Rafols said.

PSA-7 has hired 8,000 enumerators assigned in Region 7.

In 2014, Central Visayas had a population of 6.7 million and is expected to increase to 7 million this year.

Cebu’s current four million population is expected to increase by one million this year, PSA-7 further projected.

POPCEN 2015, which is a complete enumeration of households in the country, is designed primarily to take an inventory of the population of the entire Philippines.

It aims to provide government executives, policy and decision makers and planners with population data, especially updated population counts of all barangays in the country, on which to base their social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

This month is also designated as National Statistics Month, wherein a statistics quiz will be held among public and private schools in Cebu and winners will compete in the regional then to the national level.  (FREEMAN)
