CEBU, Philippines- Seven persons were arrested and while two others escaped in the region-wide operations of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 in two days.

Rudolph Alcazaren, former Cebu Daily News photographer, was among those arrested by CIDG operatives who recovered several firearms from his house in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City Sunday morning.

The CIDG detectives, led by Supt Fermin Armendarez III, implemented the search warrant.

Authorities confiscated a .45 caliber pistol, cal. 45 airsoft pistol, Ca. 5.56 airsoft pistol and several ammunition from the house of Alcazaren, son of former Bureau of Customs collector Paul Alcazaren.

On the other hand, a suspected gun maker eluded arrest in a buy-bust operation Sunday afternoon in Barangay Suba, Danao City.

Jover Bayo sensed that he was transacting with police officers and quickly fled before the police could arrest him.

Bayo and the police poseur-buyer are supposed to meet in Barangay Suba for the transaction but he noticed that the police were coming.

The suspect immediately jumped into the creek and ran away, leaving behind a 45 pistol, two .38 cal. revolvers, two .357 revolvers, six black widow revolvers and a .9mm pistol.

CIDG detectives in Bohol and Negros Oriental have also recovered firearms and illegal drugs in their operations.

The confiscated firearms will be submitted to the PNP Regional Crime Laboratory for ballistics examinations, said Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, CIDG-7 chief.

Posadas said he did not receive any information whether the confiscated weapons were used in any crimes.

He said the success of the operation was due to the information they received from the community.

Posadas said that CIDG is further intensifying campaign against loose firearms and illegal drugs.  (FREEMAN)
