Swiss man “commits suicide” inside home

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A Swiss national allegedly committed suicide inside his house in Barangay Talamban yesterday morning.

Markuz Greeder, died on the spot after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He allegedly placed the muzzle of a .45 caliber gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

Senior Police Officer 4 Rey Cuyos, Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said that the foreigner was with Janeza de Lima, 21, his live-in partner, when he committed suicide.

Cuyos said that de Lima and Greeder were about to go to Naga City to process documents for their marriage.

He said that the foreigner allegedly told de Lima to prepare to go but she suddenly heard a gunshot. She rushed to see what happened and was surprised to see Greeder lying on the floor bleeding.

She called for assistance but when the paramedics arrived, Greeder had no vital signs and was no longer breathing.

Cuyos said a gunshot wound was found on the foreigner’s tongue when examined by the Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

The police could not establish why the foreigner committed suicide because when they interviewed the live-in-partner, she could not speak properly and just kept on crying.

“Lisod pa kaayo istoryahon ang babaye kay sigi pa ug hilak, usahay magkalalis daw sila pero wala pata kabalo usa’y hinungdan,” Cuyos said.

The police recovered a .45 caliber pistol and an empty shell believed to have been used by Greeder in taking his own life.  (FREEMAN)
