Palma: Prayer is power

CEBU, Philippines - Prayer is power.

This was what Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said following Typhoon Ruby’s change of path. Contrary to earlier forecasts, the typhoon did not hit Central Visayas as it made landfall in Eastern Samar last night.

“We are happy with that development. Even before this happened, there was already that one possibility that we will not be hit. We should be happy that it didn’t and if ever it does especially in the north, it would not be that bad since it is not the eye. It is a cause of thanksgiving. Nagpasalamat ta in that sense,” Palma said yesterday.

Even with the positive development, Palma said prayers and vigilance must be maintained.

“Let us continue to monitor and be on guard. Di ta sigurado sa circumstances. We should be extra careful. Even if it is not that strong as what we feared, we should not be complacent,” Palma said.

An Oratio Imperata, mandated prayers usually issued in times of calamity or impending disaster, was earlier issued to petition that Cebu and the country be spared from the powerful typhoon’s wrath.

The prayer was directed to be recited in every mass, and encouraged to be broadcasted as done by some radio stations based in Cebu.

The prelate yesterday attended the 23rd founding anniversary of El Shaddai Catholic charismatic community held at Mariner’s Court, Pier 1, Cebu City when he shared his thoughts to local media./JMO (FREEMAN)
