Compostela asks civic groups’ aid on equipment acquisition

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The municipal government of Compostela, Cebu is seeking for more support from business and civic groups to address the lack of equipment of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Management Council.

Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño made the request to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Compostela and the Rotary Club of Cebu.

An initial 300 boots were donated by the Rotary Club of Cebu headed by its president Pedro “Pete” Delantar Jr., who is also the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Compostela.

Quiño said they need the support and assistance from the business groups to help equip their personnel tasked to respond to disasters and calamities.

Quiño admits that the municipal government lacks funds to complete the needs of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Management Council.

Delantar has assured Mayor Quiño that they will continue to help the municipal government with its needs since the giving of the boots was just an initial donation.

According to Delantar, after typhoon Yolanda hit northern Cebu, they saw the need of the town’s disaster council to operate well.

Apart from the donation they have initially given and will be turning over to the town, Delantar has extended help in conducting trainings and seminars to educate the people on how to respond during disasters and calamities. (FREEMAN)
