School’s props for Sinulog lost in fire

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A room used to store costumes at the Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorial National High School in Balaga Drive, Labangon, Cebu City was damaged by a fire yesterday afternoon.

The Cebu City Fire Department received the alarm at 3:54 p.m. and said the fire was declared under control nine minutes after firemen arrived at the scene.

Fire investigator Senior Fire Officer 1 Alberto Jagdon said the room, which was under renovation, was the school’s storage area for the school’s Sinulog props.

The fire reportedly started when welding splitters accidentally hit the props, igniting the fire inside the room which had props mostly made of cloth, wood and plastic materials.  The incident reached first alarm but fire fighters were quick to respond and put out the fire around 4:14 p.m.

The fire department urged workers to take precautionary measures to avoid fire incidents, stressing that establishments should have at least a fire extinguisher.

Jagdon pegged the damage to be around P15,000. Nobody was reported hurt during the incident. (FREEMAN)
