Cash, valuables lost to burglars

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A couple was accused of stealing P90,000 worth of cash and items after allegedly burglarizing a woman’s house at F. Llamas Street in Punta Princesa, Cebu City on Saturday dawn.

Witness Jessa Mae Lopez identified the couple (name being withheld by The Freeman), who were natives of Zamboanga Del Sur and temporarily staying in the place, as the same persons who broke into the house of her aunt Letecia Delos Reyes.

Lopez reportedly called up Delos Reyes, who was out of town when the incident happened, and told her that the couple opened the master’s bedroom using an ice pick and stole her belongings.

The items that reportedly went missing were a Sony PSP worth P5,000; Seiko 5 wrist watch worth P8, 000; Fossil wrist watch worth P11, 000; Cronu force watch worth P15, 000; Citizen wrist watch worth P11, 000; Sony Ericsson cell phone worth P15,000; Alcatel cell phone worth P3, 000; four sets of earrings worth P5,000, and cash amounting to P5,000.

Police advised the victim to file a charge for robbery with force upon things against the suspects.

Meanwhile, in the same place, an unidentified thief stole over P80,000 cash and over P100,000 worth of valuables from a pizza shop early Friday morning.

Police believe that the case is an inside job.

SPO3 Jelson Solibio of Punta Princesa Police Station said that upon ocular inspection, police investigators did not see any trace of forcible entry into the establishment except for the manager’s office.

Police took the finger prints of the pizza shop’s employees except for the security guard, who did not report for duty after the incident.

Crime Scene Investigation Unit invited the guard on Friday afternoon but he failed to appear.

Police contacted the guard’s alleged agency, Flying Ace Security Agency, to check his identity but Solibio said they were told that the agency does not have the name of the guard because the supervisor took it.

The supervisor is now also tracking the guard’s whereabouts.

Police said the guard will be considered as a suspect not unless he surfaces to clear his name.  (FREEMAN)
