CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council is now studying the possibility of donating the 13-hectare relocation site for the occupants of the North Reclamation Area (NRA) to the Municipality of Consolacion.

The city government owns the property with 21 lots in Barangay Pulpogan in the said municipality.

The council's committee on housing headed by Councilor Alvin Dizon said he has yet to receive any official statement coming from the executive department on this matter.

Dizon reiterated his recommendations urging the Office of the Mayor, Local Housing Board, and the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) to submit its position paper relative to the request of the Municipal Government of Consolacion to donate the said lots.

"The Committee on Housing believes that it is important that the Cebu City government come up with its official stand on its future plans for the administration and disposition of the Pulpogan relocation site," Dizon said.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo said the Council must be apprised of the status of the relocation site and as well as the status of the collection.

Carillo made a corollary motion requesting for the updates on the Pulpogan site, collection of payments, name of beneficiaries and the request of Consolacion to turn over the site as a way of donation to the town.

Meanwhile, the town is also asking the city government the amount of P250,000 financial assistance for the renovation, improvement, repair and rehabilitation of Mother Ignacia Village open gym.

According to Dizon, the gym needs repair and rehabilitation due to "old age and substandard construction."

The gym is situated within the relocation site in the said barangay which was a project of former congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz of Cebu 6th district where Consolacion is part of.

Dizon said the DWUP is tasked to conduct an inspection on the said relocation site, which result will be submitted to the council.

The committee didn't interpose objection on the monetary request, however Dizon said the barangay needs to submit a Program of Works and Estimates (POWE). (FREEMAN)
