CEBU, Philippines - A three-year-old boy died after he fell into and drowned in a hole filled with rainwater in Barangay Colon, Naga City Sunday.

The boy, January Puerto Jr., no longer made it to the Minglanilla District Hospital.

PO2 Jim Canabe said Puerto was playing at a construction site when he fell into the hole, which contained rainwater estimated to be four feet deep.

“Ang kanang kinawtan nabutangan nag tubig tungod adtong sige ug uwan unya lawom na man na para sa mga bata (Water filled the hole during those days it rained and the accumulated water was already deep for kids),” Canabe said in a phone interview.

Puerto was reportedly with his friends and mother at that time.

Canabe said they are awaiting the decision of Puerto’s family on possible legal action.

Meanwhile, also on Sunday, a 26-year-old man ended his life in the western town of Balamban.

Mc Nill Davao, a native of Samboan town, was found hanging lifeless from a beam of his rented room in Barangay Buanon, around 7 a.m. He used a nylon rope to commit suicide.

Dayao was taken to the Balamban Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

According to Davao’s roommate, John Pielago, 19, Davao was reportedly problematic the days leading to the incident. He was reportedly dealing with problems involving his family, as well as his personal life, as he has just broken up with his girlfriend.

“He kept on saying that he has many problems about his family and that he better be dead,” reads a transcript of the police investigation. –/JMO (FREEMAN)
