Capitol employees urged to give building materials

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Governor Hilario Davide III urged Capitol employees to help in the restoration of typhoon-stricken areas in Northern Cebu by donating roofing sheets.

â€œThe department heads, Office of the Vice Governor, Provincial Board Members and the Office of the Governor, from our own pockets, manghatag pud og roofing materials,” he added.

Davide earlier considered cancelling the Christmas parties in Capitol as a way to sympathize with the typhoon victims, but instead Capitol employees will spend two or three days visiting different towns in the typhoon-stricken areas to distribute goods to the children.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has yet to determine the amount of housing materials to be allocated for the restoration project in Northern Cebu.

Davide reiterated that the province will start purchasing needed materials once the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Provincial General Service Office, and the Engineering Department can come up with the assessment report on the damage brought by Yolanda.

DSWD, PGSO, the Engineering Department, and Agriculture office will convene on Friday to come up with the report.

Davide also wants to come up with a system for the distribution of housing materials to avoid confusion, considering that there are already local and foreign organizations extending housing assistance to some areas in the affected areas.

“Likayan nato ani nga magdoble ang pagpanghatag sa roofing materials. Everything should be well-coordinated, well-planned and well-executed,” Davide said. — Michael H. Braga with Melissa Q. Cabahug, USJ-R Masscom Intern/BRP (FREEMAN)
