Traffic rerouting for Pardo’s fiesta

Kristine B. Quintas/ATO - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) will be implementing a rerouting at the south district effective 12 noon today until noontime of Sunday, to give way for the annual town fiesta celebration of Pardo, Cebu City.

“Atong gilikay ang upat ka dagko nga sakyanan sama sa bus, mini bus, Ceres ug trucks nga moagi sa Pardo para di makadugang sa traffic. (We are rerouting the buses, mini buses, and trucks so they won’t pass through Pardo since they add up to the traffic congestion),” Citom operations chief, Joy Tumulak told The Freeman in a phone interview.

Tumulak said the vehicles coming from the south of Cebu especially huge vehicles were already instructed to refrain from entering the Tabunok national road and were advised instead to pass through South Road Properties (SRP) Lawaan to Mambaling SRP junction.

According to Tumulak they already coordinated with the Association of Provincial Bus Truckers’ Association, the SRP Management Office and the Talisay Operation Development Authority (TODA) for the temporary rerouting.

Tumulak said that close to 50 traffic enforcers will be deployed from Pardo to Mambaling.

Aside from this, Tumulak said they already placed railings on the sidewalk of Pardo Church to lessen the traffic congestion.

“Amo ning gibutangan og railings kay ang mga vendors ug church goers maka-contribute and makabara sa traffic. (We placed railings since the vendors and church goers contribute to the traffic congestion),” Tumulak explained.

He cited that rerouting is one way to avoid traffic congestion in Pardo amid celebrations like that of the town’s fiesta celebration.

“Gi-implement na ni namo last week sa opening sa Salvo sa Pardo, and amo nakita nga effective kay way traffic. Traffic man gali at least moving. (We have implemented this last week during the Opening salvo celebration and we have seen it as very effective since there was no traffic congestion. If there was congestion, it was minimal),” said Tumulak.

Further, Tumulak is asking the public to cooperate in order to avoid traffic and as sign of respect for Santo Tomas de Villanueva.  (FREEMAN)
