BOC-Cebu exceeds August collection target by P364.7M

CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Cebu has exceeded its target collection for the month of August.

The Bureau collected a total of P1.1 million, which is P364.7 million more than its target of P781 million.

BOC-Cebu District Collector Edward dela Cuesta said the many issues that were thrown against the bureau were not enough to dampen the employees’ spirit in ensuring that the bureau meets its target collections.

BOC-Cebu assessment chief Carlos Corsiga attributed a huge part of the collection to the P400 million proceeds from the auctioned smuggled rice.

Likewise, taxes and duties paid by power plants for equipment and oil imports also contributed to the success.

“We have an efficient tax collection. We are happy that we exceeded our target,” Corsiga said.

Even with the excess, Dela Cuesta said the bureau still needs to collect more, especially that there is traditionally less importation at the end of the year.

“The month of December usually mahina ang importation so we have to collect more this month,” Dela Cuesta said.

BOC-Cebu deputy collector for assessment Roberto Sacramento said they have an assigned taget of P8.6 billion for the entire year and, so far, they have collected around P6.3 billion.

Based on records, from January to July, BOC-Cebu was able to collect a total of P5,244,042,000.00 against their assigned target collection of P4,983,015,000.00 or an aexcess of over P195 million. — (FREEMAN)
