Jingjing not interested to run

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Unless he is assured that politicians will not interfere in the upcoming barangay elections,  former Guadalupe Barangay Captain Eugenio “Jingjing” Faelnar has no plans to run as the chief of the biggest barangay in Cebu City.

In an interview with reporters yesterday, Faelnar said he is not planning to run as he is enjoying a peaceful and happy life now.

But he also said he might change his mind if city politicians will not meddle in the election process.

“Kun dili lang g’yud manghilabot ang mga dagkung politiko sa eleksyon sa among barangay, pasagdan ra mi nila, kana tingali basin makombinsir ko,” he said.

During the 2010 barangay elections, Faelnar’s son, Dino, lost to Michael Gacasan, a former barangay councilor, who was backed by Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña.

Several barangay captains believe that Mayor Michael Rama will support Faelnar if he decides to run against Gacasan if the barangay elections scheduled in October will push through.

During the  May 13 elections, Faelnar was one of Rama’s leaders in Barangay Guadalupe.

This is believed to be the factor why Osmeña lost in his own barangay.

Several barangay captains  tried to convince Faelnar to run again as barangay so he would become the next president of the Association of Barangay Councils.

The ABC is presently headed by T. Padilla Barangay Captain Michael Ralota who sits as an ex-officio member of the City Council.

But Faelnar just laughed off the idea.– (FREEMAN)
