CEBU, Philippines - Fourteen people, mostly teenagers and kids, were unscathed after their vehicle turned turtle along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion West, Moalboal town, last Friday around 7 p.m.

Eduardo Badayos, 43, and his family were heading home to Cebu City after an outing at Basdaku Beach in Moalboal when the brakes of their Pajero Galloper malfunctioned.

PO2 Romeo Legaspi, Jr. who responded to the area, said the vehicle ran into a shallow ditch and turned turtle. Its windows were shattered into pieces.

Apart from one of the children who sustained a minor cut in his hand from the shattered glass, no one else was hurt.

“Wala g’yuy nagkadugo. Way nabukolan, nabalian, o napangos. Namilagrohan g’yud sila. Di lagi ko katuo,” Legaspi said.

The passengers of the vehicle were Badayos’ children, nephews and nieces namely Ederson Badayos, 19; Michael Casas, 19; Oneal Caballes, 18; Bieberlyn Badayos, 17; Ed Peje Boy Badayos, 15; Blessy Lyka Badayos, 14; Fritz Eduard Badayos, 13; Dave Edrianne Badayos, 8; Cara Vennise Ann Badayos, 7; Eduardo John Badayos, 6; Eduard Dann Badayos, 4; Shanniz Bien Badayos, 3; and one-year-old Eduard Zach Hannry Badayos. When Legaspi arrived at the area, the victims had already crawled their way out of the vehicle and were safe. He said they still took the victims to the Badian District Hospital for trauma treatment.

“Naghinilakay ra ba ‘tong mga bata so atong gidala sa ospital kay murag nanga-trauma. Gi-am-aman gani to namong uban, gipatan-aw ug mga kingkoy,” said Legaspi.

That same night, a vehicle from Cogon-Pardo fetched the victims and took them home, said Legaspi. He said they are still finding means to properly impound the vehicle that was severely damaged.  (FREEMAN)
