CEBU, Philippines - Two unidentified men fired shots at a house on Duterte St. in Barangay Guadalupe past 10 p.m. Tuesday.

They hurriedly left in a motorcycle and left a note telling the houseowner identified as Diego Famador to stop his illegal gambling activities or else, something bad will happen to him and his family.

Nobody was hurt during the attack.

Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, head of the City Intelligence Branch that responded to the crime scene, said Famador is included in their watchlist of personalities involved in the illegal numbers game.

CIB responded to the shooting but there was no one in Famador’s house.

They recovered three slugs of a caliber .45 pistol near the house.

A 16-year-old witness said he saw two men wearing hooded jackets hurriedly leaving the area after the shooting.

He said the plate number of the gunmen’s motorcycle was covered.

Santander suspected that the motive of the attack is related to Famador’s illegal gambling activity.

“It could be that they are his rival in his illegal gambling activity,” said Santander.

Santander said they tried to contact Famador and his family but they are uncooperative with the police.

Santander vowed to work harder to curb the illegal gambling activities in the city.

Meanwhile, Santander said they will be meeting with the management and security officers of the different malls in the city tomorrow to discuss security measures that would prevent mall robbery like what happened in Manila from happening here.

Last Saturday, members of the alleged “Martilyo Gang” robbed a jewelry shop inside a department store in Metro Manila’s Mandaluyong City, carting away 200 pieces of jewelry. — (FREEMAN)
