Cabrera confident Luz lots will be cleared

 CEBU, Philippines - Councilor Nida Cabrera is positive that by Monday or before the sheriff will again serve the demolition order, the contested lots in barangay Luz will be cleared from informal settlers.

“Hinayhinay na silang nidawat sa among offer. So nanghinaut mi nga inig Lunes limpyo na ang maong lugar, (They are gradually accepting our offer. We hope that by Monday, the place will be cleared), ” said Cabrera, who is the former Barangay Luz chairman and currently president of Nangka Homeowners Association (NHA).

Cabrera said that her organization has offered each household P15,000 if they vacate the area before Monday.

Except for occupants in sitio Lubi, whom she described as “hesitant” to leave, Cabrera said sitios Nangka and Mabuhay were almost cleared.  There are 32 occupants, all of whom are of from the Barangay Luz Urban Poor Fraternal Organization (BLUPFO), who are subject to the demolition order issued by the court.

Cabrera also denied allegations that there is no relocation site for the evicted families. She said some of those who have left Barangay Luz have gone to the city-owned resettlement area in barangay Talamban.

Meanwhile, Cabrera said said that although they already have the names, their association is yet to decide who will assume the vacated lots.

“Naa nay mga assumees pero desayran pa nas asosasyon. Naa mi bylaws bahin ana, (There are assumees but the association is yet to decide on it. We have bylaws regarding that),” she said.

Cabrera added that the assumees will also bear the expenses the group incurred in clearing the contested parcels of lot.

“Tungod sa gasto magsabot sa mi kinsay mopuli. Nasabutan pud nga ideduct sa assumee ang tanang nagasto sa association, (Because of the expenses, we will decide who will assume the lot. We also agreed to deduct from the assumee, the expenses of the association),” she said.  (FREEMAN)
