- Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - One person was killed while three others were injured in an accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on the National Highway in Barangay Lipata, Minglanilla town, shortly after midnight last Monday.

Pierle Parba, 19, of Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, suffered severe injuries in different parts of his body after he was run over by a sports utility vehicle. He was taken to the Minglanilla District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Those injured were identified as Josephus Solis, 30, of Barangay Lipata; Jose Jengkie Cabrillos, 43, of Barangay Tungkil; and Johnde Geno, 17, of Barangay Pangdan, Naga City. They were rushed to the same hospital.

Traffic investigator SPO1 Florante Capangpangan said before the accident, a Toyota Vios with license plate number ZHM 964 driven by Shiela Rosales, 29, of Barangay Tungkil, was traveling south from Cebu City.

Rosales was reportedly executing a U-turn in the said barangay when Parba, who was driving his motorcycle with Geno on board, hit the rear portion of her vehicle.

Parba and Geno were thrown to the pavement.

This was when the Isuzu Bighorn with license plate number RCK-788 driven by Manuel Ramos, 50, a barangay councilman of South Poblacion, San Fernando town, ran over Parba.

Ramos, who was also heading south from Cebu City, lost control and hit Solis and Cabrillos who were along the road at the time.

Ramos was detained for a few hours after the incident but later released after an amicable settlement was reached.

Capangpangan said the involved parties already signed an affidavit of desistance after Ramos assured to shoulder all the expenses.  (FREEMAN)
