Gullas to bare successor today

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas will announce today the name of his congressional successor.

Gullas admitted he is endorsing a member of his family but refused to reveal the name. He is scheduled to hold a press conference this morning at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Gullas said he has invited all the mayors, vice mayors, and councilors in the first district to witness his formal announcement.

Gullas said he is choosing between his son Gerard Anthony “Didi” Gullas and grandson Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas for his successor.

“Let’s wait tomorrow (today). Dinhi nato mahibaw-an kung si kinsa nilang duha (you would know who between the two),” Rep. Gullas said.

Talks are rife that Gullas will endorse Samsam because the latter has already been involved in several outreach projects in the district.

Samsam is currently the assistant vice president for finance and administration of the University of the Visayas and team manager of the UV Green Lancers.

Didi is reportedly not interested in joining politics. In fact, he had been offered the position in 2001 but declined because his youngest son Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III was still in the elementary.

Digul is now the youngest city councilor of Talisay City.

Meanwhile, Rep. Gullas dispelled speculations that he is running for mayor of Talisay City in 2013. He said he will be consulting the leaders of Alayon Party where he is president before making any decision.

Although the position for mayor of Talisay will be open in 2013 because Mayor Socrates Fernandez is already in his third and last term. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
