Wife submits to probe for hubby's death

- Flor Z. Perolina and Niña G. Sumacot -

CEBU, Philippines - After accidentally killing her husband with an air gun, Tita Zambo yesterday appeared before the Mandaue City Police Office to face an investigation.

Tita was accompanied by her nephew, Provincial Board Member Ian Zambo, as she submits herself to the Investigation and Detective Management Branch.

Board Member Zambo said the family is not pressing charges against Tita believing that the death of his uncle, Ernesto Zambo, last Friday was just a tragic accident.

But despite the family’s lack of interest to file a criminal complaint, homicide chief Ramil Morpos vowed to pursue the filing of a case for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

Morpos however admitted that he could not promise an airtight case against the suspect because nobody witnessed the incident. He said they will leave the matter for the prosecutor’s office to evaluate whether or not to elevate the case in court.

Tita admitted having accidentally shot her husband in the stomach while loading pellets into the air gun. She said the gun went off hitting her husband who was watching her five meters away.

Ernesto was immediately rushed to the hospital but he later died.

PB Member Zambo said the family has already accepted the incident and has decided not to file charges against his aunt.

He asked the public and the media to give their family a space to grieve for the demise of his uncle.

“It was not intentional; just a tragic accident. Kinsa may gusto mupatay sa iyang bana, di ba?” Zambo said. (FREEMAN)
