Fratman shot dead in Liloan

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Fraternity rivalry resulted to the death of a 20-year-old Akrho member who was shot dead by members of its rival Beta Gamma Rho (BGR) in Green Hills, Barangay Poblacion, Liloan on Thursday afternoon.

Declared dead on arrival at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City was Jade Lirazan who succumbed to three gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.

A witness said the three suspects were wearing jackets and bonnets and were onboard a red motorcycle but the man who had long hair was said to be the one who shot Lirazan.

PO2 Gabriel Opoc, Liloan police investigator, said Lirazan was sitting at a mini ‘kubo’ or hut when the suspects arrived and shot him thrice hitting him on the right arm, chest and mouth.

Three empty shells of a 9mm pistol and a deformed slug of unknown caliber were recovered from the crime scene by the responding policemen.

Based on the statement of Lirazan’s family, the victim once told them that somebody wanted to kill him but never disclosed any name.

Opoc said the Akhro and the BGR had an encounter in Liloan last month where a member of the BGR was shot and wounded, but survived.

The BGR reportedly planned their revenge but did not pursue it during the New Year celebrations.

Opoc said Lirazan had no derogatory record in their town and was a good person.

“Posible wala lang ka-timing sa una unya karon ilang nakit-an si Lirazan nga identified nga Akrho maong siya maoy napusilan,” the investigator said.

Opoc added that they will be checking their records for the names of those who were involved in the commotion last month.

“Naa mi insider sa grupo nga maoy among monitoron to identify and arrest the suspects,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
