Second airsoft gun attack vs homosexuals reported

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote and Isobelle Karen A. Clitar -

CEBU, Philippines - A homosexual was shot by a group of men on board a car using an airsoft gun Wednesday night in uptown Cebu City while he was enjoying the night with friends.

This was the second reported incident of drive-by shooting using an airsoft gun that victimized homosexuals in Cebu City. The first incident was reported in Barangay Punta Princesa.

Ramil Hitoro, 23, of Velez Street Capitol Site, Cebu City sustained pellet-gun wounds on both his legs after he was shot at by one of several men on board a white car.

The incident happened along General Maxilom Avenue, near the Mango Square Mall at around 11: 20 p.m.

At first, he feared he was shot by a real gun when he felt pain on both his legs. But when he checked, he found he only sustained several wounds from pellets coming from an airsoft gun. Hitoro was wearing shorts during the incident.

The suspect fled towards Gorordo Avenue.

Immediately after Hitoro reported the incident to the Fuente Police Station, the police conducted a hot pursuit operation but they failed to catch the culprits.

The police stopped a vehicle which had the same features as the one used but it was eventually released after investigation.

Police said the vehicle was heavily tinted so it was hard for the victim to identify the culprits, who only opened the window enough to fire the airsoft gun.

The police believe that the assailant had nothing better to do with their time: “Walay lingaw. Unya na tripan ang mga biktima.” (FREEMAN)
