Aboitiz foundation, Capitol back DILG's tree planting

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the Cebu provincial government have joined forces to support the Department of Interior and Local Government in the implementation of the National Greening Program, which plants one billion trees across the country.

RAFI’s GREENIN Philippines Program will help the national government and the provincial government to establish native tree nurseries as well as the production of seedlings that will be planted in the barangays.

GREENIN Philippines Program stands for Generation REdemption and Expansion of Natural resources INitiatives in the Philippines Program.

The program plans to go nationwide next year through the Run 2 Plant 4 Greenin Philippines.

The event, which will kick off on June 25, aims to plant 100,000 native tree seedlings in the province.

It includes a fun run and tree planting activity in 51 cities and municipalities of Cebu. The main event will be held in Jaclupan, Talisay City.

A memorandum of Agreement was signed the other day by DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and RAFI chairman Robert “Bobby” Aboitiz during the dialogue on DILG’s “Full Disclosure Policy” held at Radisson Blu Hotel.

The DILG program mandates all barangays in the country to plant 25,000 seedlings as it encourage all LGUs to enact an ordinance or resolution that establishes their own native tree nurseries.

Garcia issued an executive order mandating its cities and municipalities in the province to support the program. — (FREEMAN)
