Job seekers abroad discouraged to apply online

- Kenneth B. Pael -

CEBU, Philippines -  The Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) is discouraging job seekers abroad to apply online. PESO head Methia Beguia said she is against applying jobs online as there is no certainty that the job orders online are licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).

By directly applying in PESO, she said this will lessen the possibility of being a victim of illegal recruitment.

She said before overseas recruitment agencies can carry out job orders in their office, the PESO is asking them to present their license coming from the POEA. At present, there are 37 licensed overseas recruitment agencies that are registered in their office.

Beguia continued aside from the certainty that the recruitment agencies who are conducting job applications in their office are licensed by the POEA, job seekers can also have counseling assessments in the PESO which will guide them in order not to be victimized by illegal recruiters.

She said aside from job fairs there are also job opportunities available in their office. In fact, she said there are overseas recruitment agencies that are accepting job applications through their office almost everyday.

Presently, she added an overseas recruitment agency is conducting job interviews for applicants aspiring to become beauticians, manicurists, and receptionists in a salon based in Dubai. There are already 20 applicants who passed the preliminary interviews and they will be having their final interview next week.  (FREEMAN)
