Tanod shot dead by cousin

CEBU, Philippines - A barangay tanod was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Tubod, San Fernando Sunday evening by his own cousin.

Police said Romulo Arenas killed Jose Manayaga, 31, after the latter’s family filed rape case against Arenas for allegedly raping Manayaga’s wife.

Reports had it that Arenas raped Manayaga’s wife in revenge because he found out that the victim had a relationship with his wife which caused their separation last year.

Manayaga was shot while preparing dinner with his wife for the celebration of their child’s birthday.

The victim’s wife was allegedly shocked when she heard gun burst from behind and saw her husband sprawled on the floor bleeding.

Manayaga sustained a single gunshot wound to the head that caused his immediate death.

SPO1 Francisco Salubre of San Fernando Police Station said they are now trying to link the killing of Manayaga to the rape case the latter’s family filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

At first, the victim’s family allegedly refused to file a case against the suspect in relation to the rape incident but his friends insisted to pursue the filing of the case.

“Amo nang gipangita ron kung kinsa nang mga tawhana ang nagpugos sa biktima nga mukiha aron makuhaan sad namo og statements,” Laurel said.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man also died after he was shot while walking from a benefit dance along the road of Barangay Cotcot, Liloan Sunday dawn.

Aaron Jacob Benabaye, 22, was shot thrice by an unidentified gunman who was riding a motorcycle driven by another man.

Benabaye was allegedly heading towards the house of his friend, Christine Bastida, when the suspects stopped near him. The assailant, who was riding on pillion then disembarked from the motorcycle and shot him twice to the chest and to his right thigh.

The victim was rushed by a resident to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City but the attending physician declared him dead about 5:00 in the morning yesterday.

Witnesses said after the shooting, the suspects fled towards Barangay Poblacion. The gunman was only described as 5’5” tall, with straight hair, fair complexion, flat face, pointed chin and was wearing pink T-shirt and a cap.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
