Ex-brgy chief's son sued for drugs

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - A son of a former barangay captain was charged for violation of the Dangerous Drugs law after he was arrested for possession of nubain ampule and disposable syringe on February.

Cebu City Prosecutor Liceria Rabillas elevated the case to the court against Francisco Benedicto Jr., 37, a resident of D. Jakosalem St., Barangay Zapatera Cebu City for violation of Section 12 of Article 11 of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Rabillas recommended P40,000 for Benedicto Jr’s temporary liberty.

Benedicto is the son of Zapatera barangay captain Francisco Benedicto Sr.

In a joint-affidavit, SPO1 Erwin Ferrer, PO3 Edmund Tiempo, PO3 Maecelino Sanchez and PO2 Marvin Sanson, all of Parian Police Station, stated that on February 10, they were conducting a roving foot patrol at around 5:30 p.m. in Barangay Kamagayan.

After hearing of reports on the alleged rampant illegal activities at the Citicenter, police conducted a roving and saw a man flagrantly holding one disposable syringe used for injecting nubain and one empty ampule of nubain.

“He did not sense us coming so we quickly came close to him introduced ourselves as police officers and asked him if he has a prescription from license physician for nubain then answered no sir,” the police officers explained.

The police immediately apprehended Benedicto and brought him to the police station for detention.

Sanchez, who was nearer Benidicto during the operation, recovered one disposable syringe used for injecting nubain and one empty ampule from the suspect. (FREEMAN)
