Thief guns down brgy councilman

CEBU, Philippines - A barangay councilman was shot dead by the suspect who stole his fighting cock in Das Village 2, Barangay Das, Toledo City yesterday morning.

Barangay Bagakay councilor Ricardo Parame , 29, was shot thrice by the unidentified assailant while outside the house of his parents.

Police disclosed around 3:10 a.m., the mother of the victim woke up after she noticed somebody was in their backyard and asked Ricardo to check.

When the victim got out of the front door of the house, he saw the suspect carrying their fighting cock but before he could say anything the suspect fired at him three times.

Ricardo was hit to his right hips and leg and was rushed to Carmen Copper Corporation Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Responding police officers recovered one deformed slug and two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol, which was allegedly used by the suspect.

In Medellin, another man died after he was shot twice during a commotion in Sitio Tangke, Barangay Kawit early morning yesterday.

Police said the bullets pierced the ribs and left breast of Marcelito Yurag, 21, that caused his instantaneous death.

The victim was allegedly drunk and was asleep on a wooden bench along the when suspects Vicente Mondejar and Randy Villarin, who came from a benefit dance, passed in the area.

Due to drunkenness, Villarin suddenly pulled and grabbed the wooden bench where Yurag was sleeping and slammed it on the road which resulted in a commotion.

Yurag, who fell on the ground, stood up and punched Villarin in the face.

At the middle of the commotion, Mondejar allegedly pulled out a gun of undetermined caliber and shot Yurag several times in the body.

Meanwhile, in Cebu City, a young man was found dead with a lone gunshot wound to his head early yesterday morning on C. Padilla St., Barangay Duljo-Fatima.

The man, who remained unidentified as of press time, was described to be about 20 to 25 years old, slim-built and stood about 5’4” tall. He was wearing a green T-shirt paired with a red jersey shorts and black slippers when his body was found.

According to Duljo-Fatima barangay tanod Larry Camero, 46, he was on duty and was patrolling in the area around 2:45 am when he suddenly heard a single burst of gunfire.

He was prompted to verify the origin of the sound and eventually discovered the victim sprawling on the pavement already bloodied and seemed unconscious.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) who responded to Camero’s call for assistance declared the victim dead.

Crime Scene Investigation Unit said the victim was lying on his belly with a gunshot wound to his head which caused his sudden death.

Another man was injured after he was shot and hit by one of three motorcycle-riding men in Panagdait Compound, Barangay Kasambagan yesterday dawn.

Police identified the victim as Vicente Felix Cacerna, 26, and the suspects as Adamson Delantes, 30, a certain Yanex and another unidentified man.

According to two witnesses, they were standing together with the victim along the road at 3:30 a.m. when the suspects, who were armed with guns, arrived.

With no apparent reason, Yanex allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim to the right side of his body.

The victim was rushed to the Community Hospital while Yanex and the unidentified cohort fled.

Delantes, the alleged driver of the supposed get-away motorcycle, attempted to flee on board the vehicle but responding policemen from the Mobile Patrol Group spotted him and eventually arrested him.

Dacua said the suspects, who are believed to be members of a notorious gang, possibly mistaken the victim as a member of their rival group. (FREEMAN)
