CEBU, Philippines - Three people were injured after the motorcycle they were riding went out of control and crashed after their rear tire was allegedly hit by another motorcycle at the South Road Properties.

Those injured were identified as motorcycle driver Darios Mendoza, of Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, and his passengers Clarita Molato, 20; and Isa Dibalucos, 22, both from Barangay San Roque, Talisay City.

Mendoza said it was another motorcycle coming from his left rear that hit them near the Ludo Bridge at the SRP causing him to lose control.

The motorcycle crashed and the three were sent sprawling to the pavement. Mendoza sustained abrasions to his face and hands while Molato and Dibalucos sustained various injuries to their arms and legs.

Molato said they were just waiting for a ride and Mendoza drove up and offered to drop them off on his way to work. Both women alleged Mendoza was speeding and asked him to slow down but he did not listen.

Mendoza later said he was speeding because he was trying not to be late for work. He works in Opon for a security firm.

Traffic investigators at the scene said that incident was the fault of the driver as the motorcycle was speeding.

Mendoza will face penalties for not wearing a helmet and overloading.

Traffic at the SRP was temporarily affected by the incident but went back to normal after a few minutes.

Meanwhile, a man was injured after the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a pick-up he was tailing after the pick-up, owned by a local radio station, was hit head-on by a passenger jeepney along Echavez St. yesterday.

SPO3 Ramon Budiongan of the Traffic Patrol Group identified the victim as Raul Correa, 39, of Cordova town, who was bruised in the arm as a result of the accident.

Budiongan said jeepney driver Gerry Juarez was driving towards Sikatuna St. when he overtook a taxi ahead of him and ended up hitting the pick-up owned by radio station dySS at 3 p.m. yesterday.

Budiongan said pick-up driver Edgar Aniñon stopped when he saw the jeepney overtaking the taxi, but the jeepney went on to hit his pick-up head-on, pushing it back to hit the motorcycle behind it.

Juarez is now detained awaiting possible charges to be filed against him.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
