CEBU, Philippines - A man believed to be a suspected robber was arrested after trying to evade a checkpoint the other night in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, another man believed to be his accomplice was able to escape.

Insp. Genelo Veraque together with SPO1 Alfredo Petallar, PO3 Alner Maglinte, PO3 Regalado Dela Victoria, PO2 Joseph Bugtai, and PO1 Alain Dignos were conducting a checkpoint along F. Sotto St., when two men on a motorcycle with questionable license plates made a U-turn short of the checkpoint.

Barangay Intelligence Network member Ricardo Baguio ran after them and the two abandoned the motorcycle and ran off in different directions.

The motorcycle driver was able to escape but his passenger, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, ran inside a house. He would be later identified as Eugenio Aposaga, 22, a resident of Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

Linda Pulvera, the owner of the house quickly left and informed pursuing policemen and Special Weapons and Tactics team personnel of the intruder. Aposaga surrendered peacefully after he was cornered.

Policemen searched him but were not able to find a weapon, however, they found a small plastic pack believed to contain suspected shabu.

Aposaga was arrested for violating Sec.11, Art. II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act.

Aposaga later said he and his companion, whom he identified only as a certain “Meo”, just came from using shabu.

The motorcycle used in the said incident is now in the custody of the Cebu City Police Office. Police found the real license plates of the motorcycle in a compartment and these were brought to the City Traffic Office Management for verification.

Chief Inspector George Ylanan said they believe the two are robbers due to the evidence confiscated.
