-

CEBU, Philippines – Sogod Mayor Thaddeus “Deo” Durano was laid to rest yesterday in the family-owned Ramon M. Durano Sr. Foundation Mausoleum in Danao City with hundreds of his constituents in attendance.

The Provincial Board expressed sympathies and condolences to the family of Mayor Durano who passed away last April 30 after he succumbed to the complications of lung cancer which was diagnosed about two years ago.

The PB’s expression of condolence and sympathy was contained in a resolution unanimously approved in its regular session yesterday afternoon.

“The Municipality of Sogod, Cebu has the good fortune of having been served by a leader with unparalleled wisdom, untiring dedication to public service and great devotion for the upliftment of the lives of his constituents,” the resolution sponsored by PB member Agnes Magpale read.

Sogod is in the fifth district of Cebu which Magpale represents.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was among those who attended the burial.

Durano was the sixth of seven children of Ramon Durano, Sr. and wife Beatriz. He was the elder brother of Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, the father of 5th district Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI.

He is survived by his daughter, Sogod Acting Mayor Lisa Marie Durano.

Durano served as mayor of Sogod from 1980 to 1986 and in 1992 to 2001. He was also elected as vice mayor in 2001 to 2004. In the 2004 elections, he was reelected as mayor.

“In recognition of his outstanding performances as municipal mayor, he received various awards and citations from the different non-government organizations,” the resolution further read. — Garry B. Lao/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
