Osmeña: Garcias’ award not credible

-

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday launched another assault against the Garcias, this time describing the award for Cebu second district Rep. Pablo Garcia and Government Service Insurance System president Winston Garcia from the Capitol as not credible.

Pablo Garcia, the former governor, and his son Winston, two of the Garbo sa Sugbo awardees in line with the celebration of the province’s 439th founding anniversary, will receive the awards from Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia tonight.

Osmeña described the giving of awards to the former governor and the GSIS president as not credible because it could be like Governor Garcia’s right hand giving the awards to her left hand.

“It’s not credible if the right is giving the left hand an award. It’s like giving my wife Margot an award, then Margot will also give my son an award,” the mayor said.

Governor Garcia’s chief of staff Elizabeth Francia said Pablo and Winston met the criteria for the award.

Francia said the governor would not be ashamed to grant the award to her father and brother because they deserve it, adding that it just so happened that they are family members.

Aside from the Garcias, the other awardees are Presidential Management Staff director general Cerge Remonde, Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, former Philippine Air Force commanding general Pedrito Cadungog, former UP president Francisco Nemenzo and journalist Pacheco Seares.

Special commendations are to be given to businessmen, groups and private establishments for helping Cebu progress. —  Rene U. Borromeo/LPM
