Comelec: Campaign period ends this midnight
This reminder was meant to clarify the reported mounting confusion over the date of the last day of the barangay and SK campaign period.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez cited Comelec Resolution 8264 outlining the calendar of activities and certain prohibited acts in connection with the coming political exercise.
He said the resolution is “loud and clear,” stating that the official campaign period will run from October 19 until
He said candidates may continue with their scheduled political caucuses and meetings, barangay assembly and distribution of campaign paraphernalia on Saturday, the last day of the campaign period.
These are however prohibited on Sunday and on elections day on Monday otherwise candidates who do would be charged for violation of the Comelec resolution, said Jimenez.
In case somebody complains about a candidate campaigning beyond the prescribed period, a complaint should be filed with supporting evidence against the candidate, he said.
Meanwhile, the City Council approved on Wednesday a resolution for the allocation of P60,000 for the meal allowances of the police personnel who would be deployed to help in the preparation of the elections.
Councilor Augustus Pe, Jr., who authored the resolution, said policemen are needed to provide security during the distribution of the election supplies and materials, including official ballots, by the City Treasurer’s Office at the City Hall on Monday morning.
Pe said policemen will secure the area and the election supplies, and maintain peace and order during the distribution of these forms to the board of election inspectors early morning on Monday before the election officially starts.
City treasurer Tessie Camarillo has asked for an allocation of P60,000 to cover the meal allowances of the policemen who would be deployed during the distribution.
